Ventura County

Ventura County has an area of 1,873 square miles that contain ten incorporated cities and a number of smaller, unincorporated communities.

Ventura County has a strong economic base supported by major industries that include agriculture, biotechnology and telecommunications.  The county's fertile soil has made it 10th in agriculture production among California counties.  It has an annual crop value in excess of $1 billion and more than 100,000 acres of crops harvested.  The major crops in Ventura County are lemons, strawberries, oranges, avocados, vegetables, cut flowers and nursery stock.

Coastal Plain

Communities:
Camarillo:  A city of about 60,000 named after Juan Camarillo who purchased this historic Rancho Calleguas in 1875.
Oxnard:  Named for the family whose sugar beet refinery was, for a time, the county's largest agricultural operation.  With a population of about 182,000, Oxnard is the county's largest city.
Ventura:  Home to the Spanish mission that gave both the city and the county their names, Ventura, with about 102,000 residents, is the county seat.

Santa Clara Valley

Communities:
Santa Paula:  First settled in 1873, and incorporated in 1902, Santa Paula is one of the oldest cities in the county.  It was built on and grew from the success of the agricultural and oil industries.  Nicknamed the Citrus Capital of the World, it remains the county's agricultural center.
Fillmore:  A city of about 15,000 that serves as the gateway to the Sespe Wilderness and is home to packing houses for the lemon, orange and avocado operations around it.
Piru:  A tiny farming community at the east end of the valley with a long history in agriculture.
